Vision & Principles of Hansestack
Why Hansestack Exists
Anyone building software for regulated industries in Germany or Europe often faces a dilemma: the best and most developer-friendly services come from the US—and are immediately ruled out due to data protection, compliance, and the US Cloud Act. The consequence? Companies must either accept legal gray areas or painstakingly build their own, often error-prone siloed solutions for problems that aren't part of their core business at all.
This exact frustration is why Hansestack was born. The goal: to create a data-sovereign, European alternative for everyday backend challenges.
The Vision
The core of our vision is to allow small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to focus 100% on their own product. Hansestack handles the rest of the infrastructure—especially the complex edge cases surrounding security and login flows. Reliable, legally compliant, and with a developer experience that doesn't get in the way of development teams but rather accelerates development cycles.
The Hansestack Mission and Values
100% Data Sovereignty (Zero Cloud Act)
Security is not a compromise. Our systems run on German servers and are subject exclusively to European law. Hansestack offers regulated companies the legal certainty that international corporations structurally cannot provide.Services Without Shackles (Fairness)
Software should convince through quality, not through contracts. There is no artificial vendor lock-in at Hansestack. IT teams should use our services because they work well—and should be able to replace them at any time if their architecture demands it.Independent and Self-Funded
Hansestack is completely bootstrapped. There are no venture capital backers pushing for exponential growth or the monetization of usage data. We answer to only two parties: our own quality standards and our customers.Focus and Digital Efficiency
Instead of bloated all-in-one platforms, Hansestack offers focused components that solve exactly one problem perfectly. Our architecture and code are optimized for maximum performance and minimal resource consumption. This not only protects the environment but also guarantees millisecond-range latencies.Straight Talk and Transparency
Communication happens directly and on a technical peer-to-peer level. When issues arise, we don't sugarcoat them. Our focus is on open documentation, direct feedback, and an honest culture of learning from mistakes.
The Hansestack Leak Check
The vision is big, but our start is pragmatic. Instead of designing a massive platform right out of the gate, we solve one specific problem at a time.
The first service in this stack is the Hansestack Leak Check. The decision to start with this specific component is based on clear facts: account takeovers via recycled passwords (credential stuffing) represent a massive and often underestimated compliance risk for regulated companies today.
When users reuse the same password across multiple services and one of them is compromised, automated bots test these credentials directly against your own API. This is a simple, mechanical problem that generates support overhead and can be legally prevented with a single API call in the login flow.
For this reason, this check forms our logical and strategic starting point. We maintain a clear sense of pragmatism: we only build what delivers real value. As soon as this first service is actively adopted and proves itself in practice, the design of the next component will follow. If there is no real, measurable usage, we won't keep building just for the sake of it.
